What’s Behind Dignity?
21st October 2012 by HisThe people, something we started to hear a lot lately. It’s the people’s voice that counts correct? Yes in a true democracy. A democracy where the people vote on laws. A democracy where we are not blinded by sects and tribes. A democracy where the minority is not forgotten. A democracy where the people are ethical. A democracy that will never work with our mind set now.
Now, leadership is another thing I believe in. See the people are not always right. Some people would just defend what they believe in and anything against them is considered and outsider and should be wiped out. A leader is required to set pieces together and sees what is right. Sometimes taking it to the extreme to get into the right path. A path the we lost trail of years ago.
Since the “Arab springs” started we are made to believe or brain washed to believe that governments are the devils. That they are corrupt and try to get more money. That they are cruel and kill their people. That they are tyrants. So does that mean that any government (even by the people) will be considered a tyrant? We stopped working on fixing and just to force our point regardless of others. Kuwaitis are now 1.4 Million…..not 1, not 1,000 not even 500,000. Any majority should understand this.
Yet, I sit here and I do know that our government lacked in health, education, economy and many things that make a country prosper and the people happy. The government lacks in technology, in basic services (like mail) and in time to finish projects. Yet, I do not sit just put all the blame on the government. I put the blame on the ones who supposedly represent us. We keep this tention between us and the government and we keep fighting with no progress what so ever. Finally there are the people who claim to be ethical. Yet we see wastas every single day. We need to change, the representatives need to change and the government need to change.
Today marks the day where part of my country will be protesting against the rule made by HRH The Emir. The rule to change the number of votes eligible for us during the elections. I have to say that I agree with this law for many reasons. However, my main reason is that people will not reach the parliament with the help of others. They will reach it because they are worth it.
Of course with each disagreement comes reasons to prove it wrong. For example, that the person who win is the one with the most money and buys votes. Now the problem is not about who pays. The problem is who actually sells his country. The problem is that we do not identify those people. It’s not about the law it’s about the people.
That said, any other person has to disagree with me. They have the right to protest and speak their mind. At least this is part of the democracy. However I would like to point some things out.
- Violence
We always hear that protests are peaceful. Yet from what I have seen no protest is peaceful. No matter what people or human rights organizations say. There are always people who ruin it for them. I really hope that the ones with the right mind control such people.
- Riot police
It’s their job to control protests that go astray. You can call them cruel but understand if we do not have people that control things will go out of hand. Being violent and getting insulted because they are part of the police force should not be accepted.
As for boycotting the elections. I do not see the point of it. I do believe in some of the people who boycotted the elections and I would be voting for them. However their boycott will only make it easier for the ones whoa re not worth it to reach the parliament. If they do, the ones who boycotted should not have any say about it for the next 4 years. Why not try to fix it in a proper way?
As for today, I really do not have a good feeling about it. If anything, I hope Kuwait comes out as the winner.
