Raising Your Child In Kuwait

When we visit other countries and specially when we were in Japan I couldn’t help but notice that every building ,subway, bathroom …etc is very well designed to help parents with babies. they know exactly what they need and they make it easier for people to go out  and travel with babies. the question is : when are we going to learn and do the same thing here?! what do we lack ? brains? money? I really don’t understand why:(

here in Kuwait…

the daily thing I would do is pass by the co-op with Mishari and I hate those metal strollers that are not convenient or safe for the child!

not even one mall has a decent day care service!

one gym in Kuwait has a nursery and its super expensive!

almost all buildings are not baby stroller friendly!

most restaurants don’t even have baby chairs!

and ironically, in  Discovery mall’s toilets ” a mall that is made for children”  there are no changing tables!!!

and why is that?!  because we depend on the help to do the work! meaning  i can’t even go out without her! I don’t want to have one in the first place, but here in Kuwait everything will be hard as hell to do if you go out a lone with your baby…

yes, most of the time I have to take my child with me because I would never leave him a lone with the maid no matter what. after all she is a stranger and I know nothing about her.

I really wonder what will happen if maids are banned in Kuwait?!

You should visit my building in Salmiya, if you enter the elevator there is no guarantee that you will exit. Super awesome, but still people use it to reach 1st floor

I totally agree with u, nothing is child friendly here … We don’t have breast feeding rooms I had to go into changing rooms when am in a mall so j can breast feed my baby… And u will have the looks from others , but sorry this what we have no other choice.. I really wish we can find a way to solve this…

If you’re expecting Kuwait to change their baby- friendly policy by writing a couple of paragraphs then take a rain check honey. Kuwait may not be baby friendly but things such as an all- in – one baby pram that can be used to change, feed, sit, and push the baby can be used to help with running errands. Moreover, if you expect malls and gyms to hv nurseries then again, you’re leaving your child with strangers which is the very same reason you refuse to let your child with a maid.

I don’t expect the world to change by writing “a couple of paragraphs” but this is our blog and we write what we think and how we feel. and no mother is expected to be with her baby 24/7 ! what I meant was that I would not leave the baby with the maid a lone in the house with no one to supervise what she does all day and when he is in day care they are being watched by other people so she could never harm the baby or miss treat him. my post might not change a thing but I can start by my self if I want change to happen.

ooooof, ‘Te’ , I’m not sure why you even bothered to comment. Her was just expressing her opinions. Do you have kids yourself? She is totally right, Kuwait need to ‘grow’, ‘move’ into the 21st Century, when my hubby took my son to the mall (when he was a little over 1-still in diapers), he had nowhere to go and change him – no ‘all in one pram’ as he was walking ……….there aren’t even changing facilities available for men – there are ‘some’ men in Kuwait that actually change nappies/diapers.
Her, keep writing whatever you want babes and inshallah, someone, somewhere will read it and take note. It just takes one person to read it and plant the seed in their mind ;)

I never thought about this until your informative post. Kuwait needs to be more child friendly. Don’t get me started on the lack of safety standards for kids.

It’s the same in Spain and most Spanish do not have nannies. I think I’ll need at least two like my Mom. :)

I came across your blog because I was desperately looking for a gym that has a bloody nursery and I love what you wrote. You’re absolutely right. everyone expects us new moms to depend 100% on maids and I just refuse to be that kind of person. Even if it meant loosing my job. I’d rather spend all my time with my growing baby than my money on another LV bag! We have enough brats in this country already.

I gave birth 3 months ago and I’m extremely self-conscious about my body. A zillion sit-ups just don’t seem to help my belly go back! What’s that gym that has the nursery? Although with no job I don’t think I can afford it :p
