Bronze From Gold

This headline was dated back in 2000 when Al-Dehani won Kuwait’s first Olympic medal. Today Al-Dehani makes history again with another Bronze in the Men’s trap shooting. I was hoping for Gold or Silver as Al-Dehani was in the ifnal at 2nd place. HOwever the last round showed it was diffcult as many of the shooters missed quite a few shots. I guess the stress got the best of them.
First congratulations to Fehaid who made us proud and happy. A well deserved medal.
Now, the concern is where is sports heading? Sports does not stop with Shooting and e should not wait for Fehaid to win us another medal. We lack in sports due to to the lack when it comes to support of our athletes.
When Fehaid mentioned ho he was treated by Kuwait airways and how he traveled in economy class it proved that we do not respect our athletes. Our athletes are only respected when they win something. Other than that they work by themselves. Of course people start congratulating the shooting unions president. Sorry but isn’t Al-Dehani the one standing there and went through a lot of trouble to get the medal?
We need to change sports form a hobby to a life career. So athletes can develop all year long and not be stressed out from work. Unions should understand that the athletes are more important than the people in control of the unions. If we had the decency to give the athletes their dream then Kuwait would be competing in many different sports and we would have more chances to get medals and see the Kuwaiti flag rise in international events.
Back in 2000 Al-Dehani’s medal did not change a thing. Maybe this one is an eye opener with social media showing the problems in sports e have. Elections might be back soon, remember sports is part of the community. Your representatives should be taking this in consideration and do not be fooled by their so called patriotism and promises that we do not see when they are elected.
