When A Flashmob Clears Misconception
19th February 2012 by HisBy now Zain’s flash mob has been viewed over 1.1 Million times. I think that is the most watched Kuwaiti video (If I am not mistaken). The video proved that it had covered many issues mainly the unity of the Kuwaiti people.
Now, that proved that Flash mobs are a great way to entertain. However, this time it helped in something else and that is the misconception of people around the world about Arabs.
See, once the video reached 7th place on youtube it means that it is now exposed to the world. Looking at the comments you know for a fact that people saw something they had a different picture of.

From the comments above (taken from the video) you see that people had thought that Kuwait was a strict country. However with one flash mob gave them ideas of how Kuwait is (even when they did not understand a word).
This modern type of advertisement covered an aspect that has been dominated by the typical media (TV – Newspapers). That aspect is “the real picture”. Media is always biased no matter how much we say it’s not. They write what they see is fit and not how real it is. They can change depending on country, belief, sect, party and the list goes on.
This is what patriotism is, defending your country and showing the world what your country is all about.

February 20th, 2012 at 01:47I think I accounted for at least 60 of those views lol I love the flash mob they did. So rich in culture and everyone is so happy…and the people with the wrong idea of Kuwait can see the modern mall and that people can wear they want. Overall it just sends a positive image which is great. I’m not Kuwaiti but my husband is and I’m so proud to be a part of Kuwait and have it in my life. I’ve been pushing this video on all my friends and family (that won’t visit me here) so they can get a glimpse of the real Kuwait; I hope everyone else who loves Kuwait does, too.

March 20th, 2012 at 07:47I agree with what you saying but I want to put it up from another perspective. One of the comments say that they thought woman would only wear black and cover face or being a strict country. Even though we don’t why should we even try to prove to the west anything at all? Why should wearing all black hijab be considered a bad thing. That’s what is wrong with the people in the west, anything they can’t associate with is apparently bad and form of suppression. And what’s wrong in Asia in general is we want to do everything west is doing and make them look like we are like you. Why is the west considered a certain standard we should meet? The fact is if we did things right, the west would automatically look up to us, instead of other way round. We should take our culture, our values, our traditions and work towards bettering our society through education and making better efforts in fields of humanity. When you strive to do the best, and the best is a new standard and not what the west sets, faces will turn towards us. I guess I’m slightly off track here but just wanted to put up that point.
